5 things you didn’t know about your newborn session

So, you’re thinking about a Newborn Photoshoot… Congratulations!

The first few days and weeks when baby arrives can very much feel like a whirlwind of activities and emotions but in the midst of all changes, taking time to capture those once-in-a-lifetime moments is so important!

This is exactly why so many parents choose to book a Newborn Photoshoot and this is also why over the years I put so much care into creating a process and workflow that makes the whole experience a relaxing, stress-free one.

Imaging the day of your session as a little gateway where you’re finally be able to sit down and relax (maybe with a nice cup of tea or coffee) while everything else is taken care of: from settling baby to creating beautiful photographs for you.

Now if this is your first Newborn Session there might be a few things you don’t know and this is why I have decided to write this blog post for you.

Ready to discover 5 little-known facts about your Newborn Photography Session?

Sit tight!

The workflow we choose for posing your little one is designed to minimise disturbance and for absolute safety

That’s right.

To create a gallery that truly capture all those tiny details and beautiful poses every newborn photographer creates a specific workflow.

While keeping your little one safe is the absolute priority at all times – I have chosen to work in a way that minimises movements and changes between one shot and the other.

This way, once your little one has settled and asleep we will reduce the chances of their beautiful sleep being interrupted.

However, of course, babies are unpredictable, and that’s why:

We work with a baby-led approach

No matter what I have planned for you, baby is the boss! If they need a little break, a feed or simply don’t seem to relax into a particular pose we will ALWAYS adjust and adapt to their needs

We allow plenty of time for your session

Most days, your Newborn Photoshoot will be the only appointment booked at my studio so we don’t need to rush into capturing your photographs.

Should baby take a little longer to settle… no stress!

The sooner you book, the sooner we can start working on the “styling”

Yes, your Newborn Photography Session is a once in a lifetime experience – that’s why we want to ensure your photographs look exactly the way you want.

This, of course, start from the colours.

While each photographer has their own style, most photographers use a range of props, wraps, backdrops and accessories to create setups you truly love.

For me styling your session is actually one of the most important (and fun) part of the process and this is why ahead of your newborn photoshoot you’ll receive a questionnaire to help you provide me with all details needed to plan your session.

Beyond the questionnaire, though, I am always available for a chat over the phone or via email – so never hesitate to ask questions or simply talk to me about colours or keepsakes you’d love to have incorporated into your images.

This is why I always encourage parents to book as early as possible during pregnancy: it gives us a little more time to plan and ensure your images look best.

Editing is a big part of the “magic”

This part of the process is one that happens “behind the scenes” but truly makes all the difference.

But what is editing?

Well, in short, it is a process that helps us remove all elements that could be distracting to the eye when you look at your images, while preserving all those tiny details and that natural look that makes photographs real.

For example: to ensure safety of baby during the session we might at times shoot while supporting baby’s head and (of course) we will then edit the adult’s hands out of your images!!

Last but not least I will always ensure that your photographs follow specific standards that will make them look beautiful when printed.

This is also why I work with only a handful of very selected professional printing labs in the country: having worked with them for years I can guarantee that their equipment and materials are perfect for printing your images!

Images of your newborn baby with you and your partner can be created even if you don’t want to be on camera “full body”

See this image?

This is one of my most requested shots as it captures the beauty of the bond between you and your little one but only requires for your hands to be photographed!

I particularly love this shot also because pictures baby safe and happy in your hands, which is something they will also adore seeing when they look at their images as grown ups.

A Newborn Photography Session is a gift to your little one – not only to yourself and your family!

If you are lucky enough to have images of yourself as a kid with your your parents you know exactly what I am talking about.

As we grow up and go through life, photographs of our family become more and more precious and an incredible reminder of moments in our lives that will never come back.

This is exactly where “phone snaps” fall short: technology changes, phone and computers break, but printed photographs are something your children will be able to hold in their hands many many years from now.

An incredible, and incredibly powerful gift to them.
